I think what you have going looks like it could be great, really excited for your kickstarter, except this one thing which is why I'm not joining. A PDF only option HAS to use a print friendly PDF. PDF has layers, put your saturated ink on layers that can be turned off. It's that simple. Flat, one layer PDFs are so 2003.
